Baba Sadiq: Entertainment-entrepreneur-turned-politician takes Okaikwei Central for NDC
Entertainment-entrepreneur-turned-politician Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu has taken the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A day after the Saturday, December 7, 2024, polls, the devout Muslim thanked God in Arabic, thanked the Okaikwei Central constituency and underlined the significance of his victory.
"Okaikwei Central, change is here. Alhamdulilahi [prayer emoji]," he wrote on Facebook.
However, the incumbent MP, Patrick Yaw Boamah, of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) claimed victory, also.
Baba Sadiq responded via infographics, stating he had won the seat by 21,303 votes (52.92%) over a stated 18,951 votes (47.08%) for Boamah.
Congratulatory messages have poured in for the 3Music Network (3Music Awards, 3Music TV) founder who exited the Chief Executive office in September 2022 to pursue the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat as a "new hope".
Meanwhile, Boamah has indicated on social media he going to contest Baba Sadiq's victory at the Accra High Court.
"I am a believer in due process and I am taking the right steps to legally reverse this fraudulent declaration. I, therefore, urge all New Patriotic Party members, friends, well wishers to remain calm," he wrote on X.
Speaking to Channel One TV later, he accused Sadiq and the NDC of undertaking "a coup d'état to take a seat Patrick Boamah has won".
