Atik Mohammed criticises Akufo-Addo's commitment to galamsey fight

Mr Atik Mohammed has taken a strong stance against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government officials over their handling of the illegal mining crisis, popularly known as 'galamsey'.
Galamsey has become a major threat to the nation, with its devastating impact on Ghana's water bodies and environment, particularly in mining communities.
The destructive activities have left many areas in ruins.
Mr Atik Mohammed reiterated his call for a complete ban on small-scale mining, arguing that it is essential in combating the galamsey menace.
He asserted that "there is no difference between small-scale mining and galamsey," explaining that those involved in legal small-scale mining are often the same individuals engaging in illegal operations.
Atik expressed his disappointment with President Akufo-Addo's leadership on the issue, stating, "It is obvious Akufo-Addo's government is not readily committed to fighting against galamsey.
And it is evident in the actions of the President, the Ministers, and everyone else who claims to be working for the government that their resolve is not to stop the galamsey right now."
He added, "When I use the word 'right now', it means they may have plans to address it in the future, but they have shown that they are not committed to the fight at present."
The former General Secretary of the People's National Convention commented while speaking on Accra- Peace FM.
