Assin North by-election: NPP opens nominations

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened nominations for the upcoming Assin North by-election in the Central Region.
This follows parliament’s declaration of the vacant seat in a letter to the Electoral Commission after the Supreme Court ruled on the ineligibility of James Gyakye Quayson in occupying the Assin North seat.
The Supreme Court, by a unanimous decision, ordered Parliament to expunge the name of James Gyakye Quayson from its records as the Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency.
The NPP, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, after approval by the Steering Committee meeting on Tuesday, 31 May 2023, noted that the nomination forms will be available at the constituency party office for purchase and will close tomorrow, Thursday, June 1.
The internal election is slated for Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is presenting its 2020 candidate James Gyakye Quayson for the elections.
