The National Communications Officer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has criticized the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, following the Appeals Court's decision to acquit and discharge Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in the ongoing ambulance trial.

Mr Gyamfi accused Mr Dame of being a "local match-fixer" and engaging in unethical behaviours.

Mr Gyamfi expressed concern that the Attorney-General attempted to engage an accused person without the knowledge of his lawyer, describing this behaviour as worrisome and indicative of Mr Dame's character as a lawyer.

He asserted that the Appeals Court's ruling in the ambulance case reveals Mr Dame as a disgrace to the legal profession.

Highlighting the unprecedented nature of the trial judge's admonition for the Attorney-General to recuse himself from the case, Mr Gyamfi stated.

 "This has never happened before."

He accused Mr Dame of being "badly bruised" by his failed attempts to implicate the accused person and labelled the Attorney-General's reaction to the court's ruling as that of a "sore loser."

Mr Gyamfi further accused Mr Dame of using the court system to oppress political opponents and claimed that God had exposed Dame's ill intentions as the leader of the Bar.

In response, Mr Godfred  Yeboah Dame maintained that the second accused person still has a case to answer.

He explained that an assessment conducted by a subsidiary of Mercedes Benz in Ghana found the vehicles imported by Mr. Richard Jakpa’s company as ambulances were not fit for purpose.

Mr Dame noted that Dr. Forson, then Deputy Minister of Finance, signed the Letters of Credit on August 18, 2016, despite knowing the Ministry of Health lacked the funds to pay for the vehicles.

Both Gyamfi and Dame shared their views on Accra-based Citi FM on Tuesday, July 30, 2024
