All set for Mahama's inauguration for today

Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, will officially assume office today Tuesday, January 7, 2025, during a grand inauguration ceremony at the iconic Black Star Square in Accra.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama Transition Team, has confirmed the attendance of high-profile dignitaries, including 10 heads of state. The ceremony will also welcome two vice presidents, one speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and senior representatives from international organizations such as the Commonwealth and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Notable confirmations include Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kenyan President William Ruto.
Delegations from the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom have also announced their participation.
The Black Star Square is undergoing extensive preparations to serve as a secure and dignified venue for the event.
“Preparations of the grounds for the ceremony are ongoing,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated, emphasizing plans for a “beautifully curated venue” that will reflect the significance of the occasion.
The inauguration will also double as a parliamentary session, requiring Parliament to temporarily relocate to the Square. Access to the parliamentary enclave will be strictly by invitation.
“Members of the public and all invited guests are reminded that they cannot and will not be allowed to enter the swearing-in area without presenting their invitation cards,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu added.
The Ministry of National Security has announced a ban on private drones at the Black Star Square and its surrounding areas during the inauguration.
In a statement signed by Acting Chief Director Lily Fati Soale, the ministry clarified that the restriction applies to all drones, including those for recreational and commercial purposes.
The directive is part of heightened security protocols to ensure the safety of dignitaries, invited guests, and the public.
The inauguration is scheduled to begin promptly, with guests expected to be seated by 8:30 a.m. Members of Parliament and other dignitaries will then take their places ahead of the Speaker’s arrival.
The Speaker of Parliament will accompany the President-elect and Vice President-elect to the parliamentary chamber for the formal proceedings, which will commence at 11:00 a.m.
With preparations in full swing, the inauguration promises to be a momentous occasion, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to democratic values and peaceful transitions of power.
