Akufo-Addo’s endorsement of Bawumia, an attempt to salvage his image - MAC

The Director of Operation for Mass Action Committee (MAC), Haruna Mahama, has raised concerns over President Akufo-Addo’s strong endorsement of his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the next leader of the country.
According to Mr. Mahama, the President’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 elections reflects a failure on the President's part to effectively address the nation’s challenges during his tenure.
Speaking on the discussion segment of "The Citizen’s Show," hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Monday, August 19, 2024, Mr. Mahama questioned why President Akufo-Addo is focusing on Dr. Bawumia’s capabilities rather than highlighting his own achievements over the past seven and a half years.
He pointed out that Dr. Bawumia, who has been the head of the Economic Management Team under Akufo-Addo's administration, is being positioned as the solution to the nation’s problems.
"Is the President’s commitment to Ghanaians the 'Agyapadie loot'?" Mr. Mahama asked, criticizing the President for not taking responsibility for the current state of the country.
During the NPP’s manifesto launch for the 2024 elections, President Akufo-Addo praised Dr. Bawumia as someone who "lives and breathes Ghana" and assured Ghanaians that he would fulfill all his commitments.
In response, Mr. Mahama, a former People’s National Convention Deputy National Secretary
challenged the President to be transparent about what he has delivered during his time in office.
"If the President had something to show, he would be proud of his legacy, but instead, he is relying on Dr. Bawumia to formalize that legacy," Mr. Mahama concluded, suggesting that Akufo-Addo’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia is an admission of his own shortcomings as a leader.
