Akufo-Addo congratulates Ouattara on third-term victory
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara for his electoral victory in the Ivorian election.
Nana Akufo-Addo said he hoped that within the period of his tenure of office, he will not only help strengthen the already-strong relations between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, but also help accelerate the realisation of the vision of regional integration.
Nana Akufo-Addo congratulated Mr Ouattara after Ivory Coast’s Constitutional Council formally ratified his re-election for a third term after a tense election that was marred by clashes and an opposition boycott.
Opposition leaders had called on supporters to boycott the electoral process, saying Ouattara’s bid for a third term was unconstitutional.
Ivory Coast has a two-term limit for presidents but Ouattara insisted a new Constitution in 2016 allows him to run again.
