4 million supporters for Bawumia: I'm not a politician – Ali Jarrah clarifies
Former Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Ali Jarrah has refuted claims that he had declared support for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's Presidential Candidate for the upcoming December 7, elections.
In response to a September 26 article by The Chronicle titled "Ali Jarah pledges 4 million supporters for Bawumia," Mr Jarrah clarified that he is not involved in politics.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom Morning Show hosted by Otafrigya Kayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on September 30, 2024, Mr Jarrah expressed his concern over the misleading reportage.
He stated that he does not recall making any such pledge and explained that he was invited to an event in Tema by Maestro Pele to support retired footballers across the country.
Mr Jarrah emphasized that during his speech at the event, he communicated in both Ga and not English, and he finds it problematic for someone to misinterpret his words.
"I am not a politician and have no intention of becoming one," he stated, underscoring his commitment to advocating for the welfare of retired footballers without taking sides in the political arena.
"If I were to take sides, how could I solicit support for my community from both political divide?" he added.
