#2024Polls: Only accredited persons will be allowed access to collation centres – Police
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has served notice “only accredited persons will be allowed access to the collation centres”.
The George Akuffo Dampare-led service explained, “These include the media, candidates and their agents, accredited observers, and any other individuals or groups accredited by the EC”.
This was in a statement released Saturday evening, December 7, 2024, and posted on the GPS’s social media.
“All persons entering collation centres across the country will be screened,” the police stated.
“No unauthorised vehicles will be allowed within the premises of the collation centres, and motorbikes will not be permitted within 100 metres of the collation centres.”
The statement concluded, thus: “These arrangements replicate what normally occurs at the national level during presidential and parliamentary elections.
“We urge all stakeholders to fully comply with these arrangements.”
Ghana went to the polls to select a new president and members of parliament.
The democratic exercise began around 7 AM.
"About 95 per cent of all polling stations closed the polls by 5 PM," according to the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission, in a media update.
Currently, after the voting phase, the counting phase is ongoing with collation of final and certified results anticipated.
