#2024Polls: One dead in NDC youth clash at Damongo collation centre
A 35-year-old man, Mukila Ziblim, has tragically died from a gunshot wound sustained during an attack on the Damongo Collation Centre by youth affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday, 8 December 2024.
The fatal incident occurred as the group launched an assault on the facility before setting fire to the storeroom of the West Gonja Municipal Electoral Commission.
The 35-year-old man was rushed to hospital with a bullet lodged in the left side of his chest, and despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries within an hour.
His body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for preservation.
The attack saw the NDC youth vandalising vital electoral materials, including laptops, pink sheets, ballot boxes, and papers, leaving the facility severely damaged.
This violent episode is part of an ongoing series of disturbances surrounding the 2024 general elections, raising serious concerns over security at polling and collation centres across the country.
Investigations have since commenced into the cause of the incident.
