#2024Polls: Cheddar’s wife wonders where her vote went; ‘the system failed the Bediako family’
The wife of independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako has cast doubts on the integrity and efficacy of the 2024 electoral process.
She was reacting to reports that when the ballots were counted at the polling station at which she and he husband voted, the latter received only one vote. This led some members of the public to question Cheddar's support system at home.
In a viral video on social media, Mrs Ruby Bediako wondered where her vote ended up, noting she was deeply hurt.
She seemed more perplexed when she explained the entire Bediako family went to the polling station in the Korle Klottey constituency to cast their votes.
“It wasn’t just me. I think it was the whole family that went. I’m heartbroken because I think the system failed us because where is my vote? I don’t know where my vote went,” she said.
“I think that the comment on social media it’s not just me. I think there’s a lot more people looking for [their] vote.”
“But we are all very happy,” Mrs Bediako added, explaining: “Ghana won and that’s the most important thing.”
Turning her attention elsewhere, she remarked the Bediako family was happy for the outcome of the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections, which saw record apathy on the part of supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the historic return to power of former President John Mahama.
Mrs Ruby Bediako urged: “Let’s all celebrate our President-elect.”
Meanwhile, when the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Mrs Jean Mensa declared the official results, Monday, December 9, it was revealed, for his debut, Cheddar and his New Force placed third after Mr Mahama, and the NPP's Dr Bawumia.
