2024: Samson Asaki Awingobit declares to contest PNC’s flagbearership race
Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG), has officially declared his intention to vie for the flagbearership position within the People’s National Convention (PNC).
In a recent media interview held in Accra, the unionist expressed his readiness to participate in the presidential race if the party opens nominations for contenders.
Mr. Awingobit conveyed his determination to take part in the PNC's presidential primaries slated for March 2024, emphasizing that he would promptly pick up the required forms to formalize his candidacy.
His decision to contest, he stated, is contingent on the party's opening of nominations for aspiring presidential candidates.
During the interview, Mr. Awingobit conveyed his commitment to undergo the necessary processes and assured that he would be among the first to acquire the nomination forms when they became available.
His announcement adds a new dimension to the upcoming internal elections within the PNC, injecting a sense of anticipation and competition.
If successful in securing the PNC flagbearership, Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit would position himself as a prominent candidate for the party in the broader political landscape.
His decision to enter the race reflects his dedication to contributing to the political discourse and shaping the direction of the PNC.
Meanwhile, the fee for presidential aspirants of the People’s National Convention has been set at GHC100,000.
For the national chairperson, the fee is GHC35,000, a memo signed by General Secretary Janet Nabla announced on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.
The vice chairperson and general secretary will each pay GHC25,000, while the national organiser aspirants will pay GHC15,000.
The national women’s organiser, national treasurer, and national youth organiser aspirants will each pay GHC10,000 while deputy aspirants in the national elections will need to pay GHC5,000 each.
For the regional elections, the fees are as follows: GHC3,000 for the regional chairperson aspirants, GHC2,000 for the vice chairperson and regional secretary, and GHC1,500 for the regional organiser, regional women organiser, regional youth organiser, and regional treasurer.

Subject: Internal Elections Scheduled and Fees for Prospective Candidates
Please be informed that the People’s National Convention will be conducting its internal elections in the upcoming months.
The regional elections are scheduled to take place from January 15th to January 31st, 2024, followed by the national elections on March 2nd, 2024, and the presidential elections on March 24th, 2024.
Prospective candidates who are eligible to contest in these elections may obtain their nomination forms from the regional and national offices on January 4th, 2024.
The cost of these forms is as follows: GHC200 for the regional elections, GHC500 for the national elections, and GHC2000 for the presidential elections.
Furthermore, please note that there are specific fees that candidates must pay based on the position they intend to run for.
The fee for the presidential candidature is GHC100,000.
For the national chairperson, the fee is GHC35,000.
The vice chairperson and general secretary will each pay GHC25,000, while the national organiser aspirants will pay GHC15,000.
The national women’s organiser, national treasurer, and national youth organiser aspirants will each pay GHC10,000.
Deputy position aspirants in the national elections will need to pay GHC5,000 each. For the regional elections, the fees are as follows: GHC3,000 for the regional chairperson aspirants, GHC2,000 for the vice chairperson and regional secretary, and GHC1,500 for the regional organiser, regional women organiser, regional youth organiser, and regional treasurer.
Additionally, deputy position aspirants in the regional elections must pay GHC500 each.
Please note that women contestants in all positions are only required to pay half of the specified amount for their respective positions.
Lastly, all payments for the nomination forms and filing fees must be made through a banker's draft in the name of the Peoples National Convention.
