NHIA CEO inaugurates Shama district office
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of a newly constructed office in the Shama District of the Western Region.
The event was attended by key figures and local leaders.
Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, the Chief Executive Officer of NHIA, delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the organization’s achievements over the past two decades.
He also presented his 4-point vision aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery across the country:
Promotive and Preventive Healthcare Eliminating Copayment and Illegal Charges at Health Facilities Issuance of Ghana Cards to Children Aged 6-14 Expanding NHIS Coverage to VisitorsDr. Aboagye emphasized the importance of shifting focus towards promotive and preventive healthcare, encouraging citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles.
He noted that this approach is now part of the NHIS benefits package, which will include annual medical check-ups for members during their birth months.
District Chief Executive for Shama Municipal Assembly, Mr. Emmanuel Dadzie, lauded the NHIA’s efforts and urged the community to maintain the new office properly.
He also highlighted the innovative steps taken by the NHIA to revitalize the scheme, particularly the introduction of the NHIS short code *929 and the MyNHIS app.
Nana Isaac Kwamina Afful, who chaired the event and donated the land for the new office, expressed his gratitude to the NHIA for completing the project on schedule.
He encouraged the people of Shama to register for NHIS cards to fully benefit from the expanded services.
Mr. Kwamina Takyi-Arthur, Regional Operations Manager, welcomed Dr. Aboagye and his team, while also calling for the timely completion of other building projects in the region.
The ceremony was graced by several NHIA officials, including Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah, Acting Director CAF; Mrs. Eva Okai, Acting Director of Human Resources; Mr. Bernard Brown, Director of the Southern Belt; Mr. Fred Appiah, Central Regional Director; and Miss Abena Ekufua Esia-Donkor, Acting CPC, Cape Coast.
