Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured trainee nurses that the government is actively working to prevent delays in the payment of their allowances.

Speaking to students at the Korle-Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Greater Accra Region while campaigning for Dr Mahamadu Bawumia.

Dr. Prempeh acknowledged that while occasional delays may occur, they are preferable to the complete cancellation of the allowances, which the NPP restored after they had been previously scrapped by the opposition National Democratic Congress.

The trainee nurses at the institution expressed their strong understanding of the impact their votes will have in the upcoming December 7 elections.

They emphasised their commitment to voting for policies that benefit the future of Ghana, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, which they believe will benefit their younger siblings and future generations.

The students also pledged their support for initiatives such as Agenda 111, which aims to build hospitals where they may one day work and the assurance of a stable power supply.

The nurses expressed their support for NPP's Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the visionary leader guiding Ghana into the Fourth Industrial Revolution through digital transformation.

Dr. Prempeh used the opportunity to encourage the students to spread the message of hope and progress embodied by Dr. Bawumia and the NPP.

During his address, Dr. Prempeh, also known as “Napo,” reassured the trainees of his commitment to ensuring that their allowances were paid promptly.

He reminded the audience that the NPP had fulfilled its 2020 election promise by restoring the nursing training allowances, which had been cancelled under the previous administration.

While acknowledging the concerns raised by the trainees about the irregularity of payments, he emphasised that the government is taking steps to address the issue and alleviate the financial burden on nursing students.

"There may be delays, but allowances delayed are better than allowances cancelled," Dr. Prempeh noted, reiterating his hope that future disbursements would be made without interruptions.

A senior campaign aide to  Dr. Prempeh, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, also highlighted the significance of the December elections, emphasising that Dr. Bawumia chose Dr. Prempeh as his running mate because of his proven leadership, performance, and understanding of the dynamics of Ghanaian politics.

Mr Kokofu stressed that the election will be won through strong support from all constituencies, particularly the Ashanti Region.

He further emphasised that the NPP, under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia, have demonstrated commitment to the nation's development through policies like Free SHS, industrialisation, and digitalisation.

Prince Obeng, the Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the NPP, also addressed the gathering, stressing that the 2024 elections are critical for Ghana’s future.

He praised the current government’s focus on education, digitalisation, industrialisation, and skills training, positioning them as the pillars of progress that the NPP has championed.
