Road construction: Over 120 corpses exhumed and reburied at Pramso
Over 120 corpses have been exhumed and reburied by their families at Pramso in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti region over road construction in the area.
This follows a request by the contractor constructing the lake road, Kofi Job construction, for the portion of the cemetery land to expand the road.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Frank Owusu Sekyere told Class News’ regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that the remains were exhumed upon a directive by the Chief of the community, Nana Gyanpon-Tuah II upon the request by the contractor.
He said corpses were subsequently reburied in the same cemetery but away from the affected part of the land requested for the road expansion.
Mr. Sekyere indicated that the Chief has again directed the community not to bury any bodies in the unaffected part of the cemetery land because he was allegedly going to sell it to a business partner.
Mr. Sekyere said a new land very close to a river that serves the community has, however, been demarcated by the Chief as a cemetery.
While expressing worries about the situation, he called on Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Environmental Protection Agency to intervene and prevent the Chief from using the riverside as a cemetery.
