Return to work - Organised labour to workers as it calls off nationwide strike
Organised Labour has called off its nationwide strike, which began on Monday, July 15, 2024, in protest against the sale of 60 percent of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares in four hotels.
The decision to end the strike followed a letter from SSNIT dated July 12, 2024, informing Organised Labour that it had terminated the intended sale of its stake in the hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong, Agric Minister.
At an emergency meeting held in Accra on Monday, Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, announced that they had decided to end the strike and requested all workers to resume work on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Dr. Baah stated that Organised Labour had given SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to engage with them to address all outstanding issues related to the management of pensions.
He warned that they would “advise themselves” if SSNIT fails to meet this demand.
He also expressed gratitude to all the working people of Ghana and all Organised Labour groups for their support during the strike.
