Remove Justice Twum from Cecilia Dapaah case; he's prejudiced against Special Prosecutor - OSP

General News
Kissi Agyebeng - Special Prosecutor

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has formally petitioned Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, requesting the recusal of Justice Edward Twum as the presiding judge for the confirmation application involving the seizure and freezing of properties belonging to former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.

The judge informed the sotting of the petition at Thursday's sitting and adjourned proceedings until the matter has been determined.

The OSP seeks approval for its decision to seize approximately 2.8 million cedis and 590,000 dollars found in Cecilia Dapaah's residence, suspecting them to be tainted properties.

The court initially set 18 October 2023 as the hearing date, but a recent application by Dapaah's lawyers led to an earlier date.

However, the OSP's legal team insists that Justice Edward Twum cannot impartially handle the application, citing a perceived prejudice against the OSP and the Special Prosecutor.

The OSP's formal request is based on the belief that Justice Twum's apparent bias raises concerns about a fair and unbiased judgment.

The OSP is expressing reluctance to participate in proceedings before Justice Edward Twum.
