The Patriotic Muslim Front (PMF), a civil society organisation has commended the government for reducing the 2025 Hajj fare from GHC75,000 to GHC62,000, describing the move as a major relief for Ghanaian Muslims seeking to embark on the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

In a statement co-signed by PMF President, Haj Mohammed Haruna, and Executive Director of LeadGate Foundation, Mr. Iddrisu Abdullai Alhassan, the group expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Interim Hajj Task Force for fulfilling the government's promise to make the Hajj more affordable and accessible.

“This development is a testament to the government’s commitment to the welfare of the Muslim community and its dedication to upholding the social contract it entered with the people of Ghana,” the statement noted.

While applauding the government’s intervention, the PMF cautioned the Interim Hajj Task Force to remain focused on its core mandate—ensuring the smooth organization of the pilgrimage—without overstepping its role.

The group specifically urged the Task Force to avoid direct involvement in investigations related to past Hajj debts, stressing that such matters should be handled by independent investigative bodies to ensure impartiality and accountability.

“The PMF reiterates its call for transparency and accountability in all matters related to the Hajj pilgrimage.

We urge the government to ensure that anyone found culpable of foul play in the mismanagement of Hajj funds is made to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement added.

The PMF reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the interests of Ghanaian Muslims and pledged to closely monitor developments to ensure the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage is affordable, well-organized, and transparent.

The group further called on all stakeholders to collaborate in the spirit of unity and cooperation to achieve a successful pilgrimage for Ghanaian Muslims.

The statement concluded with prayers for Allah’s blessings on all those involved in organizing the Hajj and a wish for ease and dignity for Ghanaian pilgrims.
