Nana Ato Dadzie, a former Chief of Staff under the late Jerry John Rawlings’ administration, has confirmed that the late Dr. Francis Nkrumah was indeed the son of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Speaking on the MASTER of the GAME show hosted by King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) on Accra-based CTV on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Nana Ato Dadzie revealed that Prof. Francis Nkrumah was born during Kwame Nkrumah’s time at Elimina in the Central Region, where he had lived with his close friend, Nana Ato Dadzie’s father.

“Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and my late father were schoolmates in Axim, in the Western Region, and shared a close bond,” Nana Ato Dadzie explained.

He noted that Nkrumah fathered Prof. Francis Nkrumah during Ghana’s independence struggle but had to flee Saltpond, along with his friend, due to complications surrounding the pregnancy.

Nana Ato Dadzie added, “While Nkrumah eventually went to Liberia to the United States of America, my father settled in Nigeria.

As young men, they had some challenges with women in Elimina, which led to their departure.”

He also remarked on the striking resemblance between the late Prof. Francis Nkrumah and his father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. “

This resemblance is undeniable, and I once shared this story with Samia Nkrumah, daughter of the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah” he said.

Professor Francis Nkrumah, the eldest son of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, passed away at the age of 89.

Professor Nkrumah died on Sunday, 30 June 2024, leaving behind a legacy of distinguished contributions to medical research and public health.

Born to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Madam Fanny Miller from Elmina in the Central Region, Prof Francis Nkrumah was the firstborn child of the former President.

Dr. Nkrumah met Madam Miller while teaching at a middle school in Amisano, a town near Elmina.
