The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that 70% of streetlights in Accra are functional within the next 50 days, with visible progress expected by March 10.

Speaking on the initiative, Minister Ocloo emphasized the importance of well-lit streets in enhancing security and road safety for motorists and pedestrians.

She assured residents that her office is collaborating with relevant agencies to accelerate the repair and installation of streetlights across the capital.

“We will meet our target within 50 days. Even though we have faced some challenges, including the theft of cables, we are determined to ensure that streetlights are restored,” she stated.

The Minister further disclosed that Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have been tasked to monitor progress and provide updates on the project.

“We are conducting working visits to assess the progress made by the MMDCEs.

Our goal is to ensure that by March 10, residents will see significant improvements,” she added.

The initiative comes in response to growing concerns over poor street lighting in Accra, which has been linked to increased road accidents and criminal activities.
