Ibrahim Mahama donates food items to Ankaful Maximum Prison for Ramadan

Renowned Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama, has donated a variety of food items to support inmates, particularly Muslims, at the Ankaful Maximum Prison in the Central Region for the celebration of Ramadan.
The donation, which was made through the Ministry of the Interior, headed by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, was received by prison authorities on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Recognizing the challenges of food insecurity in prisons, Ibrahim Mahama, a devoted Muslim, saw the need to assist Muslim inmates in observing the Ramadan fast.
His generosity extends beyond Ankaful, as checks reveal that he has selected several prisons across the country for similar donations during the holy month.
The donated items included 150 bags of rice, 60 bottles of cooking oil, 30 boxes of tinned tomatoes, and 30 boxes of mackerel, all aimed at ensuring that inmates have sufficient meals during Ramadan.
Presenting the items on behalf of Ibrahim Mahama, Abdulai Amo, the Central Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the NDC, expressed excitement that the region was selected for the donation.
He emphasized that the support comes at a crucial time, as prison authorities have faced numerous complaints regarding food shortages.
Central Regional Commander for the Prisons Service, CDD Alfred Cudjoe, extended the service’s profound gratitude to Ibrahim Mahama and the Interior Minister for their act of kindness.
He noted that the donation was timely, as the current daily food allocation for adult inmates remains an inadequate GH¢1.80.
He further stated that the donated items would provide much-needed relief to the inmates, particularly on the eve of Ramadan.
CDD Cudjoe also used the opportunity to appeal to the government for urgent support.
He highlighted the need for a vehicle to transport on-trial inmates to court and hospitals, as prison personnel struggle with daily transportation. Additionally, he called for the completion of Phase 2 of the Ankaful Maximum Prison project, which has been abandoned for over a decade, hindering proper reformation processes for the prison’s 1,370 inmates.
The donation underscores Ibrahim Mahama’s continuous commitment to humanitarian efforts, particularly in supporting vulnerable groups during significant religious periods
