GIS promises legal showdown amid encroachment attempts

The Management of Cantonment-based Ghana International School (GIS) has announced its intention to pursue all legal avenues to protect the school's land in the Greater Accra Region following recent encroachment attempts.
On August 29, 2024, unidentified individuals attempted to deliver a quantity of concrete blocks onto a section of the school's property, claiming that the area had been sold to an unknown buyer.
The school immediately lodged a complaint with the Cantonments Police Station, prompting a rapid response team to assess the situation.
In the early hours of Saturday, August 31, 2024, a tipper truck loaded with sand arrived at the school gate, attempting to offload the sand onto the property.
GIS security and Cantonments Police, who had been called to the scene, resisted the attempt.
A man in plain clothes, driving a Toyota Camry with registration number ER 297-23, insisted that the truck, bearing registration number GC 2397-21, be allowed to enter and dump the sand.
The two occupants of the tipper truck were taken to the Cantonments Police Station, along with GIS personnel, for questioning.
The man in the Toyota Camry, who identified himself as Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Opoku of the Very Very Important Persons Unit (VVIPU) at the Office of the President, also accompanied them to the station.
Later that same morning, an excavator was brought to the site by an unknown individual, apparently to begin construction of a fence wall on the school property.
This attempt was also resisted by school authorities.
In response to these incidents, the management of GIS has taken steps to secure its land and has issued a stern warning to all encroachers, including any security officers who may be involved, to stay off the school's property.
The school has reaffirmed its commitment to defending its rightful ownership of the land through all necessary legal means.
