GA/R: Fire at Kissiman Junction slum claims life of four-month-old baby
A devastating fire broke out at a slum near Kissiman Junction, Achimota-Samodak in the Greater Accra Region, in the early hours of Tuesday, claiming the life of a four-month-old baby and leaving several residents homeless.
Firefighters from the Legon and Abelempke Fire Stations responded swiftly, with the first team arriving at 4:24 am, just 12 minutes after receiving the distress call at 4:12 AM.
Despite their rapid response and relentless efforts to contain the inferno, the fire destroyed over 20 wooden structures used as homes, along with personal belongings.
The firefighters, however, prevented the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, including a warehouse.
As of 5:02 am, the fire was successfully brought under control, with overhauling operations still ongoing.
Tragically, the charred body of the infant was retrieved and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched a probe to determine the cause of the fire and prevent future occurrences.
