ECG, Gridco announce 3-weeks dumsor

The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced significant power supply interruptions across the nation due to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria.
The disruption, which began on Wednesday, 12 June 2024, is expected to continue for the next three weeks as maintenance work is carried out by a Nigerian gas supplier.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, 13 June 2024, GRIDCo and ECG confirmed that the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) is overseeing the maintenance, which has led to a notable decrease in the overall power generation capacity in Ghana.
This shortfall may necessitate load management strategies to mitigate the impact on consumers.
“The reduction in gas supply has caused a reduction in overall power generation capacity in Ghana which could result in load management over the period of the work, the statement stressed.
Despite the challenges, GRIDCo and ECG are working diligently to manage the situation.
“We are collaborating with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimise available resources to ensure minimal impact of the reduction in gas supply on consumers,” the companies assured the public.
The interruption in power supply has already affected several areas across the country.
