Bank of Ghana commends media for enhancing public understanding of Its activities
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has expressed appreciation for the media’s role in helping the public better understand its activities, referring to them as "important partners" whose contributions are invaluable.
Mr Bernard A. Otabil, the Communications Director at BoG, emphasized that the bank’s effectiveness is significantly improved when the public grasps the nature of its work—a goal the media has been instrumental in achieving.
Speaking at a two-day workshop organized by the BoG for selected journalists in Kumasi, Mr Otabil encouraged the media to continue providing accurate coverage of essential economic and business facts, including inflation rates, company profits, and investment options like treasury bills and bonds.
Mr Otabil also urged journalists to go beyond simply reporting the facts by offering deeper analysis and explanations of economic developments and their underlying causes.
He stressed the importance of helping the public make sense of complex financial issues.
In addition, he called on the media to adhere to professional ethics, emphasizing the need to prioritize accuracy over speed when gathering and sharing information.
The workshop, Mr Otabil noted, was part of the BoG's ongoing efforts to enhance media standards, motivating journalists to achieve the highest levels of professionalism by sharpening their skills and improving their reporting techniques.
