Atimpoku-Asikuma road reopens to traffic after Juapong floods – Roads Ministry

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced that it is mobilising the necessary resources to carry out emergency remedial repairs on the damaged section of the Atimpoku–Asikuma road in the Eastern Region
This comes after severe flooding disrupted travelling on the Juapong portion of the road.
A torrential downpour caused a culvert on the Ho-Accra road to collapse, resulting in significant traffic delays and stranding numerous vehicles.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Roads on Sunday, 30 June 2024, revealed an assessment done by the Ministry after the flood receded, indicates that “8.2 m span bridge over the Fodoga River is in good condition.”
Hence, “the road is now open to traffic,” the statement noted.
Also, further investigations further reveal that about “120m sealed surface of the road was damaged by the flood. There is also the need to improve the free flow of the river to avert the re-occurrence of the flood.”
The Ministry added that it is committed to work with the “Ghana Hydrological Authority to improve the free flow of the river.”
The flooding trapped approximately 100 vehicles between the Adomi Bridge and Juapong, with many more vehicles forming a long queue on the other side of the flooded area.
One vehicle that attempted to drive through the floodwaters became immobilised, adding to the congestion.
Additionally, several vehicles parked at a local mechanic shop were also swept away by the rising waters.
There were no reported casualties by 9 pm on Saturday, 29 June 2024.
In response to the blockage, some motorists from the Ho direction took a detour through the rugged Frankadua route to reach Juapong, while others opted for the longer Ho-Sogakope-Accra route to avoid the flooded area.
