V/R: Sokode SHTS reopens with safety assurances from authorities

Sokode Senior High Technical School in the Volta Region has officially reopened for academic activities following its closure on February 23, 2025, due to a violent clash between some students and community youth.7
School authorities have assured parents of enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of students.
The closure was prompted by an incident on February 22nd, when about 42 students allegedly broke bounds and engaged in a fight with local youth.
The altercation escalated, leaving some students and residents injured.
In response, the Volta Regional Education Directorate, in consultation with key stakeholders and the Regional Security Council(RCC), ordered a temporary shutdown of the school to restore peace in the area.
After weeks of deliberation, the school’s management and education authorities held a meeting with parents on Thursday, March 24th, to facilitate the return of students.
Speaking to the media, the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Isaac Kofi Dzidzienyo, assured parents that calm had been restored and that adequate security measures were in place to safeguard students as academic activities resumed.
He also confirmed that students involved in the violent incident would face disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, the Mankrado of the Sorkode Traditional Council, Togbe Krakani III, has called on the newly appointed Volta Regional Police Commander to ensure that those responsible for the clashes are held accountable under the law
