Gov’t committed to advancing TVET to create skilled workforce-Napo
The government has invested over $1 billion in enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) infrastructure in recent years, resulting in significant improvements at TVET institutions across the country.
The investment has upgraded school infrastructure, introduced state-of-the-art laboratories, retooled existing facilities, and equipped workshops with modern technology and machinery.
At an investiture ceremony in Cape Coast for Dr. James Condua Lindsey Orleans, the first Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh announced that a future administration led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would continue to prioritize TVET by providing students with access to innovative tools and resources.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that this commitment is essential for Ghana to participate fully in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, driving growth and prosperity for the nation.
He added that these investments aim to create a skilled workforce to support Ghana’s development, particularly in tackling youth unemployment.
He further noted that transforming TVET is central to the government’s strategy to foster industrial growth and job creation, lauding Dr. Orleans Lindsey’s expertise in real estate and expressing confidence in his ability to advance Cape Coast Technical University’s mission.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, a former Minister of Education, highlighted the strides made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in revitalizing technical institutions.
He noted that empowering these institutions would help train Ghanaian youth for promising careers, making TVET institutions places that inspire every young Ghanaian.
Representing the Minister of Education, Deputy Minister Prof. Kingsley Nyarko stressed that prioritizing education is critical to national development.
He observed that nations that have prioritized education and industrialization have continued to thrive. Industrialization, he stated, demands a knowledge-based society with a skills-focused citizenry to sustain economic growth and national progress.
The newly appointed Chancellor, Dr. James Condua Lindsey Orleans, pledged to support the Council, faculty, and staff at Cape Coast Technical University.
He committed to addressing the infrastructure challenges facing the university, aspiring to elevate it into one of Ghana’s leading TVET institutions
