Education Minister calls for equitable AI integration in education

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education as the world marks International Day of Education 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday, January 24, the Minister emphasized the transformative power of education, particularly in an era of rapid technological advancement.
This year’s observance is themed “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation”, highlighting the intersection between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and learning.
"Education is not just about reading, writing, and arithmetic," Iddrisu noted. "It is about equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to become better people and build a better society."
He cited the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, which aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030.
The Minister acknowledged the opportunities AI presents in education, such as personalized learning and broader access to knowledge.
However, he stressed the need for critical investments in infrastructure, internet connectivity, and safe learning environments to fully harness AI’s benefits.
Quoting notable figures like Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, and Malcolm Forbes, Iddrisu underscored the enduring significance of education in shaping societies and driving progress.
Despite advancements in technology, he lamented the continued exclusion of millions from education due to poverty, conflict, and inequality.
He called for collaborative efforts among governments, educators, and organizations to dismantle barriers and ensure equal learning opportunities for all.
“As we mark International Day of Education 2025, may we all endeavour to ensure that education remains a beacon of hope and opportunity in our ever-changing world,” he concluded.
