East Legon accident: Farewell service held for Justine Agbenu
A farewell service has been held at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Accra, for Justine Mary-Anne Enyonam Agbenu, today, Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The 12-year-old lost her life in a tragic car accident on Saturday, October 12.
A speeding Jaguar rammed into an Acura vehicle she was in at the backseat. Eventually, both cars caught fire and Justine and her friend Maame Dwomoh Boaten could not escape as others did. They were burned to death.
Justine was the only child of her parents'. The loss and cause of death has brought them great pain. While it is rumoured her father has since gone dumb out of shock, her grandmother has said nothing but justice in its full force would satisfy her even though it will not bring back the child.
In a tribute, Justine was remembered by her cousin as a teenager "filled with wisdom far beyond her years".
Justine's father's tribute was read by his friends.
The dresscode for the service was White/Black and White.
Actor and politician John Setor Dumelo was in attendance to mourn with the family.
While the mortal remains of Justine was being taken away after the mass, her wailing family members could be heard repeatedly praying, "God help us. Good Father, give us justice."
On Friday, October 18, a candlelight vigil for the girls was held at the Mensah Wood Avenue T-junction were the accident happened. The next day, a farewell service was held at Agape New Testament Church, East Legon, for Maame Dwomoh. She was laid to rest at the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
