Basic schools reopen for 2024/2025 academic year

Basic schoolchildren across Ghana are returning to school today, September 10, 2024, to begin the 2024/2025 academic year.
This marks the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that first-cycle students are officially starting the academic year in September, returning to the traditional schedule.
According to the 2024/2025 academic calendar released by the Ghana Education Service (GES), the first term will span 15 weeks, starting from September 10 and ending on December 18.
Schools will then go on break from December 19.
The second term is set to begin on January 7, and will run until Wednesday, April 16, 2025, after which students will go on vacation starting Thursday, April 17, having completed another 15-week term.
Schools will reopen for the third term on Tuesday, May 6, and continue until July 24, marking the end of the academic year.
The third term will last 12 weeks in total.
