Second Lady's mother ordered demolition of East Legon property – Lawyer tells court
The controversy surrounding the recent demolition of ten houses in the plush East Legon area in the Greater Accra Region has intensified with fresh revelations in court linking the family of Ghana’s Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, directly to the incident.
Property owner George Oti Bonsu has filed a contempt case against Hajia Aisha Ahmed, mother of the Second Lady, and her attorney-in-fact, Charles Edem Adogodo, following the demolition of his property.
For weeks, there had been consistent public denials from Samira Bawumia’s family regarding any involvement in the demolition.
However, during a contempt hearing on October 26, 2024, Defense Attorney Kofi Abotsi confirmed that Hajia Aisha Ahmed, one of the respondents in the case, is indeed the mother of the Second Lady.
This disclosure sheds new light on the family's role in the dispute, casting doubt on prior statements distancing the Bawumia family from the incident.
The revelation came to light when Lawyer Elikplim Agbamava, representing Mr. Oti Bonsu, raised concerns over Hajia Aisha Ahmed’s continuous absence from court hearings.
Responding to this, her lawyer, Ernest Kofi Abotsi, explained that due to her position as the wife of Ghana’s Ambassador to the UAE Ahaji Ahmed Ramadan, she is often out of the country and thus unable to attend court sessions.
Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan is the father of the Second Lady
This open-court disclosure has attracted public attention, as it involves high-profile individuals within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The case is being closely followed, with many awaiting further details as the legal proceedings continue.
As the contempt case progresses, Ghanaians are keenly observing for additional revelations that may further clarify the involvement of the Second Lady’s family in this high-stakes property dispute.
