IGP puts GHS10K bounty on Mankessim cop killers’ head
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has announced a reward of GHS10,000 to any person who gives credible information that would lead to the arrest of some suspected armed robbers who shot and killed a police officer and wounded two others in the early hours of Wednesday, 22 January 2020 at Mankessim in the central region.
According to a statement from the police signed by DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong of the Public Affairs Unit of the regional police command, the incident occurred “at about 0200hours when a police patrol team responded to a distress call from the ZEN filling station at Mankessim.”
The statement said upon the patrol team’s arrival, the robbers opened fire on them injuring two officers in the process.
The statement further noted that at about 0430 hours of the same day, the body of a plain-clothed police officer “who was not on duty” was found with gunshot wounds some 200meters away from the robbery scene.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances under which the off-duty police officer was killed.
