31-year-old Gambian woman caged over pub owner's murder

A 31-year-old woman, Mam Yandey Joof, has been remanded in police custody by the Madina District Court for the alleged murder of 40-year-old Bennette Agyekum Adomah, the Chief Executive Officer of Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge in East Legon.
The court did not take a plea from Mam Yandey Joof.
According to Inspector Jameson Awumey, who presented the case's facts in court, the deceased, Agyekum Adomah, and the suspect, Mam Yandey Joof, had been in an amorous relationship for the past three years.
Around three months before the incident, Adomah had travelled abroad and returned to Ghana on the evening of October 7, 2023.
He went to his residence in East Legon from the airport at approximately 6:00 pm.
Later, around 8:00 pm, he left his house to visit Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge in East Legon.
At approximately 12:30 am on October 8, 2023, Mr Adomah left the restaurant and headed to Joof's apartment in Ogbojo. However, at around 1:30 am, Mr Adomah began acting erratically and shouting that someone was chasing him.
He became hyper and started throwing things around in the apartment.
His actions woke up the other tenants in the building.
Miss Joof called a close friend of Adomah's for assistance, and when the friend arrived, they found Adomah in the kitchen, lying in a pool of blood, and behaving erratically.
Tenants in the building helped transport him to DEL Hospital in East Legon, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The police were notified of the death, and Mr Adomah's body was taken to the Police hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
During the inspection of the scene, pieces of broken ceramic glass with blood stains were discovered in the apartment.
A cut was also found on the deceased's left thumb.
The investigation is ongoing.
However, the suspect's lawyer, Muniru Kassim, has asserted her innocence and stated that they will prove her innocence to the court and the general public at the appropriate time.
He also mentioned their intention to seek bail for his client in the High Court.
The case was adjourned to October 27 and was presided over by Mrs Susana Nyakotey.
