Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads & Highways

The Kwame Governs Agbodza-led Roads & Highways Ministry has announced the return of road and bridge tolls, only that this time collection will be “technologically-driven” and not done via toll booths.

“To achieve this objective, the ministry will employ an open, transparent, competitive, cost-effective and fair procurement process,” a statement dated Thursday, February 6, 2025, signed by Nasir Ahmad Yartey, Head, Public Relations Unit, said.

The ministry assured the public of its commitment to introducing “a modernized system that addresses the current tolling and road maintenance funding challenges of the country”.

With the introduction of the electronic levy (e-levy), former President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration ended road and bridge tolls in 2021. The same administration hinted at a restoration for 2024.
