Sports Journalist Saddick Adams has pushed back strongly against the notion the recent anti-galamsey demonstrations are meant to make the sitting government unpopular.

He spoke to Prince Benjamin (PB) of the Voice of America (VOA), Thursday, October 3, 2024.

“There are people in galamsey from both divides – they are from all the parties, even,” he said, arguing President Nana Akufo-Addo assuring he would put his presidency on the line to stop the menace highlighted “the severity of it”.

“Where would government be without the people? The government is the people,” Saddick Adams added, challenging, if anything, the worry should be Ghana and its “people who are becoming unpopular globally, for our reckless living – that’s [more] important than, let’s say, [sitting] government [officials]”.

He explained he was not at the original protest against galamsey in September because “I’ve been out of the country for some time and I came back to see this and I took it upon me to join”.

“Any protest against galamsey, as long as I am available, I’ll join,” he underscored.

Saddick Adams was seen at day-one of the planned three-day protest led by the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey who matched with placards and chant songs from Okponglo, Legon, to the Accra (Ohene Gyan) Sports Stadium.

Democracy Hub ignited the anti-galamsey protest between September 21 and 23. Their protest was, however, disturbed by a clash with the police, and subsequent arrests, arraignment and remanding into police and prison custody. Fifty-four (54) individuals were picked up by police from the 37 Intersection in Accra for what the police and court say was unlawful acts.
