Former Auditor-General Domelevo on removal from office: ‘My audits were hitting very hard at the government’

Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has alleged his removal from office was largely due to the inconveniences he caused President Nana Akufo-Addo and his administration.

Domelevo suggested his audits, which he claims were highly critical of the government, made him a target for removal.

On the Class Morning Show (Class 91.3 FM), Friday, September 6, 2024, he spoke to Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.

"I definitely agree that I caused some inconveniences for Nana Addo and his government. I was pursuing an agenda that was not in their favour, so I was removed," Domelevo said.

He asserted he was perceived as a threat due to the biting nature of his reports.

"My audits were hitting very hard at the government. Because of that, I was seen as a threat and was removed unconstitutionally," he said.

Domelevo also recounted a letter he sent to President Akufo-Addo following his suspension, in which he noted to the president his removal was a reaction to the inconvenience his work was causing.

"In my letter to the president, I pointed out that I believe he is doing this because he feels I am inconveniencing him or that the way I am doing my work is inconveniencing his administration," he said.

He noted, also, "The truth of the matter is that there were topical issues I was facing and an agenda I was pursuing, which the government knew was not going to be in their favour. My audit reports were critically impacting them."
