Commander of the Operation Halt 2 has noted day-two of the reintroduced military operation against illegal mining (galamsey) took his team to the Pra river, where 10 changfans and 10 water pumps on the river were destroyed by the task force.

This happened on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Day-one saw a total of 18 changfan machines used for galamsey on the Birim river, Eastern Region, destroyed.

According to Colonel Eric Tenadu, as his task force visits galamsey sites, surprising illegal miners was key. He noted, however, the galamsey operators have so far escaped capture.

He said a single-barrel gun seized on day-two was locally manufactured. Also, it was seized together with some BB cartridges, and mechanic tools, he explained.

Furthermore, Colonel Eric Tenadu revealed as the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) collaborates with a team from the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM), waterbodies and forests was Operation Halt 2’s purview. Waterbodies, however, he underlined would be the first focus, to ensure the pollution of Ghana’s waterbodies was stemmed.
