A security analyst, Mr Adiib Saani, has asked Ghanaians not to countenance the statement made by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Bryan Acheampong, at an event organised by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Mpraeso in the Eastern Region to climax the Easter festivities.

Mr Acheampong at the event said should the National Democratic Congress (NDC) dare to use “threats, violence and foolishness in the 2024 election, we [the New Patriotic Party] will let them know we have the men,” stressing: “We will show them that we have the men. We have the men.”

The Abetifi MP, who is also the former Minister of State in Charge of National Security, told party supporters after a health march at Mpraeso in the Eastern Region on Saturday, 8 March 2023, that the “NDC party will collapse.”

He also noted that the NPP will never hand over power to the NDC after the 2024 polls, adding that the incumbent party will do everything to hold on to power.

"If you mean well for this country you will not smile if you hear a statement like that from the man who is a Cabinet Minister in the current administration. 

“As a security person, I become extremely worried when I hear such statements from high-profile individuals at the helm of affairs,” Mr Saani remarked in reaction.

According to him, the statement is dangerous and tends to undermine state institutions in the country.

The security analyst pointed out his dissatisfaction with the comments of the Cabinet Minister in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s mid-day news on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

“This is the time for the leadership of the country to use their heads and not their hearts in the management of the rising tensions in the run-up to the 2024 general elections,” he argued. 

He said the statement made by the minister, who is also a lawmaker, has the potential to erode the democratic gains of the country.

“The statement has the potential to make Ghana a 'banana republic',” he warned.

He added that the statement can sow seeds of discord in the minds of party supporters going into the 2024 elections.

He appealed to the leadership of the NPP to disassociate themselves from Bryan Acheampong's statement.
