CLOGSAG strike leaves applicants seeking gov’t services stranded
Many applicants seeking to register or renew their businesses at the Registrar General’s Department in Accra were left stranded due to a strike by members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association Ghana (CLOGSAG).
The strike is in response to the government’s delay in implementing a proposed new salary structure approved by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, which comes a year and a half after a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was agreed upon.
Affected applicants expressed their frustrations in separate interviews with Class 91.3 correspondents in Accra and Kumasi.
One applicant shared, “I’ve been here for more than 30 minutes. I was here yesterday to file our annual registration, but there was an issue, so I had to leave and return.
When I left, I noticed red banners on the door but didn’t realize they’d be striking today.
“This morning, when I arrived, they said they were on strike because the government hadn’t resolved some salary issues. So we’re all here, puzzled by the situation.”
Another applicant added, “For about two years, they’ve been trying to negotiate a solution, but the government has been unresponsive.
We are pleading with the government to intervene.
Whatever negotiations or conclusions they reach, the government should resolve them so that businesses can proceed.”
In Kumasi, many were stranded at the various offices manned by the members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) due to their strike action
