Brunei: KNUST student attempts suicide but is saved
A student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ashanti Region, has been saved in his suspected attempt to end his life.
The unidentified male student, in a video circulating on social media, appears to have aimed to jump to his death from the topmost floor at the Brunei hostel complex.
Intervening, some of his fellow students, in the video, can be seen holding him by his arms to keep him from falling from the 7th floor balcony.
The reason for the suicide attempt at the prestigious hostel which houses local and international students is not immediately known.
The video was shared by a verified Twitter account with the handle @VOICE_of_KNUST.
The one taking the video, could be heard shouting in shock: "Jesus Christ! He can fall down."
A mate with him, also speaking in Pidgin English, chimed in with affirmation: "He can, and if he falls, he will die straight away... because [of the] concrete [floor]."
Other occupants of the hostel, watching the suicide attempt and the timely but delicate efforts of more than two of their mates to avert the tragedy, could also be heard in the video lifting their voices in horror.
Finally, when the male student was successfully pulled back up into the building and to safety, the onlooking students applauded.
