68th independence anniversary celebration: Police announce temporary road closures, diversions in Accra today
The Ghana Police Service has announced “as part of the security arrangement for the 68th Independence Anniversary Celebration at the Jubilee House, there will be temporary closure of some roads in Accra” today, Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Thus, a statement by the police revealed the roads within Accra which will be “temporarily closed to vehicular traffic and will be re-opened after the event”.
1. Road Closures
i. Liberation Road at Opeabia Intersection
ii. 37 Intersection towards the Central Business District (CBD)
iii. Independence Avenue at Ako-Adjei Bypass Jawaharlal Nehru Road at Switchback Road,and
iv. Presidential Drive around the Jubilee House will be blocked at John Hammond Road at TV 3 Junction and Kanda Link.
Also, the police pointed to some road diversions,
2. Road Diversions
i. Motorists on the Liberation Road from Airport towards Accra on reaching Opeibea Traffic Intersection will be diverted onto the Alliance Francaise Road to link up the Obasanjo Highway or diverted onto the Airport Bypass to link up with the Giffard Road.
ii. Motorists on Independence Avenue from Accra direction will be diverted at Ako Adjei Interchange onto the Ring Road Central towards Osu or towards Kawukudi.
iii. Motorists from Club 10 and Kanda Post Office will be diverted at Kanda Link unto the Sunyani and Kade Avenue to link up with Kanda Highway.
iv. Motorists are advised to note this arrangement and plan for alternative routes before embarking on their journeys. In furtherance to this, no vehicle would be allowed to park on the road.
3. Car Parks
i. No vehicle would be allowed to park at unauthorized places or drive through these road blockades
ii. Security vehicles and vehicles carrying dignitaries would be allowed after thorough checks.
iii. Traffic Police Officers would be at hand to direct and assist motorists to the appropriate car parks and diverted roads.
iv. Towing cars would be available to tow off any abandoned, disabled or wrongly parked vehicles at the event grounds
“Motorists are further advised to take note of these arrangements and plan alternative routes before embarking on their journeys. The general public, especially motorists are once again urged to cooperate with the Police to ensure effective traffic control and management before, during and after the programme,” the statement signed by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACOP), Director, Public Affairs, concluded.
