COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, recently appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) in charge of Operations, stands as one of Ghana's most respected law enforcement leaders.

His rise to this top position is a testament to his decades of dedicated service, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to national security.

A CAREER MARKED BY EXCELLENCE 

With over 20 years in the Ghana Police Service, COP Yohuno has earned a reputation for efficiency, integrity, and a deep commitment to public safety.

From combating armed robbery syndicates to managing high-stakes national security operations, his leadership has consistently delivered results.

His approach emphasizes transparency, accountability, and community engagement, qualities that have earned him widespread respect from both his peers and the public.

KEY MILESTONES 

2007-2009: As Divisional Commander for Accra Central, Yohuno demonstrated his ability to manage complex policing environments with calm and competence.

2011: Awarded the Grand Medal for his outstanding efforts in tackling armed robbery and violent crime, one of Ghana’s highest civilian honours.

2012: Promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), reflecting his growing influence in law enforcement.

2015: As Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), he implemented key reforms that significantly reduced road traffic accidents.

2016: Promoted to Commissioner of Police (COP), where he continued to build on his successes and eventually became Director-General for Special Duties and Administration.

July 17, 2024: COP Yohuno’s appointment as Deputy IGP for Operations marks the pinnacle of his illustrious career, placing him at the helm of critical operations aimed at ensuring national security.

A VISIONARY LEADER 

COP Yohuno’s expertise in crime-fighting is widely acknowledged.

Ernest Owusu Bempah, Director of Communications at the Ghana National Gas Company, described him as "the best officer to fight crime," highlighting his innovative strategies and deep understanding of criminal behaviour.

His leadership is seen as crucial in addressing the country’s security challenges.

FACING LEGAL CHALLENGES 

While his appointment has been widely supported, it has faced some legal challenges. Emmanuel Felix Mantey, a Ghanaian citizen, filed a suit arguing that the position of Deputy IGP for Operations is not constitutionally recognized.

However, the Police Council, recognizing Yohuno’s stellar credentials, advised President Akufo-Addo to proceed with the appointment.
