Nana Kwabena: The Ghanaian nominee for the 66th Grammys

Entertainment
US-based American music producer Nana Kwabena Tuffour

Nana Kwabena Tuffuor, simply known as Nana Kwabena, is the only Ghanaian who stands a chance of being a Grammy winner come February 2024.

The Recording Academy, organisers of the prestigious Grammy Awards, released the nominee list, Friday, November 10, 2023. Ever since, Ghanaians have expressed disappointment that no local music act was nominated, with some even vehemently trolling Reggae and Afro-Dancehall star Stonebwoy because even though he hinted at being nominated, October 11 on Facebook, he was eventually snubbed.

From classfmonline.com's perusal of the 2024 Grammy nomination list, however, it has been discovered that there is a Ghanaian nominee, music producer Nana Kwabena.

He is, in fact, nominated for the biggest glory for the awards scheme, Album of the Year, having worked on singer Janelle Monae's 14-track long play (LP) The Age of Pleasure. Nana Kwabena is credited as a producer and songwriter on the tape, having contributed at least 20 per cent of the material.

The Age of Pleasure is again nominated in the Best Progressive R&B Album category.

Had singer-songwriter Amaarae, featured on track 8 (Rush) of The Age of Pleasure, contributed at least 20 per cent of the material on the album, she would have been named a nominee. She was also hosted by Babyface on track 11 (One Good Thing) on his Girls Night Out album, nominated in the Best R&B Album category.

It is same with Stonebwoy, featured on track 6, Zimm, on Beenie Man's Simma of 20 tracks, nominated in the Best Reggae Album category.

The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 4 at the Crypto.com Arena, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Meanwhile, apart from Janelle Monae, Nana Kwabena, as a songwriter, producer and sound engineer, has worked with Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, John Legend, Jidenna, Mr Eazi, etc.
