King Paluta for Artiste of the Year: For Okyeame Kwame there's no argument to be had

Rap legend Okyeame Kwame has declared King Paluta is the Artiste of the Year who must be recognised when the plaques that matter are handed out this year.

On social media, he asserted there was no argument to be had on the matter.

He said via a caption when he posted a snippet of the new music video for Magic, a song by rapper, singer-songwriter and producer King Paluta.

Paluta famously came to prominence in 2024 following the release of his Aseda, after being outside the limelight for 20 years, at least. Makoma followed and became a viral hit. He scored a treble when For the Popping (Apicki) was released. Aseda was heard in political, cultural and entertainment circles. Same as Makoma. Apicki, which translates as ‘it’s succeeded’ has come into daily language use, underlining the song's wide acceptance.

At the heel of these successes, the Kumasi star surprised his audience with a 13-track debut album, Give Time Some Time, a title reminiscent of what he said to capture his out of the blue rise to fame while accepting his Best New Artiste and Best Hiplife Song of the Year honours at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Monday, February 24, 2025, Okyeame Kwame (OK) wrote on Facebook, “Artiste of the Year. Signed, sealed, delivered. And he is wearing the love equation by OK. Medaase, King Paluta.”

The biggest music awards schemes in Ghana are the 26-year-old Ghana Music Awards, now headline-sponsored by Telecel Ghana, and 3Music Awards – in that order.

Okyeame Kwame was half of the Akyeame duo which collected the first Artiste of the Year honour in 1999 at the Ghana Music Awards. As a solo act, OK lifted the trophy in 2009.

According to the Board of the 2025 Ghana Music Awards, the Artiste of the Year accolade belongs to the artiste who is adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the year under review. The artiste must have released a hit Single/EP/Album, and must be one of the artistes with the highest nominations in the year under review.

Afro-Dancehall star Stonebwoy bagged the TGMA and 3Music Awards Artiste of the Year trophies in 2024.
