Indigo O2: Sister Deborah went to support 'sweet ex' but isn't getting back with Medikal
Sister Deborah, born Deborah Owusu-Bonsu and sometimes called the African Mermaid, made a surprise appearance during Medikal's recent Indigo O2 performance.
They performed their first hit collaboration Too Risky (2017) and, in an odd move, Deborah did her solo Kakalika Love (2018) hit, also.
Medikal, born Samuel Adu Frimpong, and Sister Deborah were once lovers. When they broke up, Medikal married actress Fella Makafui (2020). Long before the marriage, Deborah released Kakalika Love, a song that rebukes an unfaithful man and his secret lover, a diss believed to be aimed at Medikal and Fella. The song seemed to liken the pair to cockroaches who hide from the light.
Explaining her decision to perform with rap star Medikal for his debut live performance in London, singer Sister Deborah told YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon it was a gesture to "support my friend" and "my sweet ex".
"We have music together and he's my friend," she doubled down.
She revealed, while she was open to the idea of performing, she was equally invited by Medikal.
She categorically stated the performance did not mean they were reuniting as lovers, because "that chapter is closed".
Medikal recently indicated to 3Music TV's Culture Daily crew he and Fella Makafui are no longer together, and are co-parenting their child, Island.
While it could be argued Sister Deborah and Medikal sharing a stage and being captured on tape hugging each other at the back of Medikal's separation or divorce from Fella is inappropriate, at least, one would have to consider Sister Deborah contributed a verse to and played a vixen in Medikal's music video for Cold & Trophies (March 2023) while he was still married to Fella.
