Indie artiste Sefa reveals she left D-Black’s BAM over ‘business misunderstandings’
Sefa has bemoaned “my previous camp” did not adequately promote and actualise the true potential of her collaboration, Vibration, with Ivorian legend Freddie Meiway.
This is how she broke the news she was no longer with D-Black’s Black Avenue Muzik (BAM).
The Highlife and Afrobeats singer spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, Thursday, October 24, 2024.
According to Sefa, after she has been off the BAM “for some time”.
“First of all, my contract ended,” she explained, adding she had been with the record label “for almost 7 years”.
“A lot of things happened,” she added, including “some business misunderstandings”.
Calling it “a rollercoaster,” she said it was expected when one deals with a company “as a family”.
Going independent
“Right now I’m doing everything by myself,” the Shuga hitmaker revealed.
She indicated, All Over, her new song with Camidoh, marked the “beginning of the new journey”.
She said she wanted to “keep things coded [secret],” noting “I’m sure we’re solving [the issue]”. However, Sefa revealed though she was an “understanding and loyal person,” there was a time she “felt like – maybe, I’ve been hurt or been betrayed to a point where I asked, ‘What’s the purpose?’ Instead of me being there and having some sort of hatred towards people that I love as a family, I prefer to take a step [on my own] and keep it going”.
As an independent act, “at the moment, I'm focusing on myself and my journey,” she added.
While she indicated she had no issues collaborating with BAM for business, she gave the impression she was not returning to the company as a signee, moving forward.
Futhermore, the award-winning artiste clarified she was still driving the car she was given at BAM “because I paid for it”.
Value
Depending “on the deal and what it entails,” Sefa noted she was “very open” to offers from record labels.
“Aside from the passion I have for the music, I'm very hardworking, I'm dedicated, very self-motivated,” she underlined.
She said she was not a greenhorn, having gained a lot of experience from working with BAM “because they put me in a position where I was doing a lot of things by myself”.
The E Choke hitmaker, also, pointed to her “amazing songs out there that are doing amazing”.
