Full package: The first female artiste to bring body and hits to Ghana’s music industry
Welcome to the music industry where people with PHD (Pull him/her down) syndrome are many – yes they’re. One funny thing is that they’re all playing the victim.
Generally, to penetrate the Ghana’s music industry is harder than inserting a cow leg into a needle. For a female artiste, it is worse.
Everyone wants to get into your pants; from the sound engineer, video director and self-styled artiste manager.
To see a female artiste excelling in this creative arts industry is no joke. She must have really worked hard for it. There are few female acts who have been able to penetrate the industry and are still doing well. However, this diva has distinguished herself.
She is unique, energetic, intelligent, beautiful and her voice is just a bonus.
Her delivery on every single song I have listened to is just amazing; timing and her composition are always on point.
The first time I listened to her song, “are you ready”, I realised that when Ghana’s biggest female export Efya Nokturnal decides to quit music we have a replacement. I dare say that even now.
Many people thought she was just passing through just like other female acts but undoubtedly, she has been able to prove her talent and maintained her queenship as Queen Solomon.
Her perfect body shape with a huge backside speaks volumes even before she grabs the microphone.
Her name became a household name in Ghana after she released one of her biggest song ever, “JeJe” featuring dancehall artiste Charles Nii Amarh Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale in the year 2018.
The said song brought her into the limelight with a whole lot of controversies about her and the “dancehall king”.
Some bloggers wanted their share of her attention on their sites, as they claimed she was having an affair with Shatta Wale and other false stories.
Fast forward, her fan base started increasing and she named them “Slay Nation.” She later released a single titled ‘slay Queen’ off her maiden album Queen Solomon.
She also embarked on a club tour, dubbed “Sista Afia Darling Tour” through which she aimed to connect with her Slay Nation fan base.
She exhibits creativity and versatility and, therefore, she is able to collaborate with different artistes from different genres. In 2018 she released her maiden album of 15 tracks, titled Queen Solomon.
She featured the likes of Shatta Wale, Medikal, Flowking Stone, Kinaata, Afezi Perry and Kelvynboy. Queen Solomon was one of my favorite albums.
She got featured on Sarkodie’s fifth studio album titled ‘Black Love’ in the year 2019 alongside the likes of Mr Eazi, Efya, Donae'o, Idris Elba, Stonebwoy, Tekno, Maleek Berry, Rudeboy. She was featured on a song dubbed ‘Broken Heart.’
In 2020, Queen Solomon decided to spice things up a little by venturing into rap music. She dissed female rappers Eno Barony and Freda Rhymz. The strategy really worked because she got many people talking.
Though she is not a rapper, her delivery on the WMT a hiphop jam song really amazed other male rappers like Kwaw Kese, Medikal and others. “WMT” and “You got nerves” was a clear wake up call to Eno Barony, Freda Rhymz and other female rappers.
(Facts) The two hip pop rap songs really resurrected the spirit in the female rappers and gained them more attention especially on their YouTube Channels which also helped Eno Barony to work hard to win the rapper of the year 2021.
Sista Afia has received over 16 awards including, Best Female @Ghana Entertainment Awards USA, 3Music awards Female Woman of the Year 2019, 3Music awards Female Act of the Year 2018, Best Hip life Video and Best Hip hop Female Video at 3rd Television Music Video Awards 2018 and more.
She has performed on numerous stages both Ghana and abroad including VGMA 2020. She has also shared a stage with African best rapper, Sarkodie and many others.
This year, she has released a couple of hits songs such as, Broken, ‘Sika’ remix ft Sarkodie and Kweku flick. Currently promoting her new single dubbed ‘Asuoden’, she features Kuami Eugene on the potential Christmas jam.
She was groomed by multiple award winning highlife act Bisa Kdei and had her first released titled ‘Kro Kro No’ a low tempo love song featuring Bisa Kdei in the year 2015.
Ghanaian Highlife act, Bisa Kdei discovered Sista Afia in London (UK) after she was introduced to him (Bisa Kdei) by her former manager (also in London).
Sista Afia, born Francisca Gawugah, is a highlife, afro-pop and Afrobeat artiste. She was born on November 8, 1993 in Accra, Ghana.
She grew up in Accra and Kumasi and later moved to UK to study nursing.
