Entertainment
(Facebook, July 31): Rex Omar

Rex Omar has been appointed to head the National Democratic Congress’s creative arts drive.

The appointment comes as the NDC readies itself for the December 7 elections.

The Highlife star’s purview per the appointment is to communicate the vision of the NDC for the creative arts industry, and mobilise stakeholders to support the party’s campaign to restore flagbearer and former President John Dramani Mahama to power "to reset" the economy of Ghana.

A music executive who commands respect in areas like copyright and royalty collection, since 2017, Rex Omar has served as the Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO). He is the former Vice President of the Copyright Society of Ghana.

A member of the 2013 Committee for National Intellectual Property and Policy Strategy, the Kotosa hitmaker is the former Head of Business and Finance of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

To complement previous posts, the Swiss Society for the Rights of Authors of Musical Works (SUISA) member today, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, on Facebook, shared items 17 to 24 from the 2024 NDC Manifesto concerning ‘Building a Thriving Creative Arts Industry’, including: enforcing broadcasting and local content provisions, facilitating the collection of royalties, helping make Ghana a top three film producing country in Africa, giving writing a commercial advantage, and supporting content creators.

The Dada Di Da hitmaker captioned the post, thus: "The Ghanaian economy and job creation being his top most priorities, H.E. John Dramani Mahama intends to build a thriving creative industry to provide new jobs for the youth, especially women under the Black Star Experience."
