'Defe Defe' copyright controversy cleared indeed: Source close to Team Eternity confirms

A source close to Contemporary Gospel group Team Eternity Ghana has confirmed the Defe Defe controversy has indeed been settled as Kwame Mickey reported days ago.
Kwame Mickey, the music executive behind Halleluya Voices’ hit Defe Defe of 2004, recently accused Team Eternity of copyright infringement, threatening legal action against them if they did not contact him to settle the issue behind closed doors.
Team Eternity Ghana scored a megahit with a new song incidentally titled Defe Defe, which essentially bears no resemblance to Halleluya Voices’ except for a line, performed in Akan Twi, that, in English, says: “Leave me be as I praise God [because] were it not for him, I would have been totally ruined.”
While Team Eternity Ghana has been tightlipped the entire time, classfmonline.com has gathered from an insider, who spoke in confidence, that the group has indeed come to an amicable solution with Kwame Mickey. Additionally, she intimated, the choir has been asked not to give any public reactions.
The enquiry was occasioned by Kwame Mickey informing the public he had been seen privately concerning the matter, and had been paid an undisclosed amount of money, also, to end what possibly would have been a dramatic legal tussle.
“The parties have duly entered into a Licence Agreement under which Kwame Mickey grants to Team Eternity Ghana the non-executive right to use in the new song, those words derived from the existing song,” Mickey’s July 1, 2024, statement read in part.
Kwame Mickey at a point had YouTube disable the 2024 Defe Defe of Team Eternity’s prior to the announced settlement. At publication time, the song is available to fans for streaming, however. The chart-topper has amassed almost 3 million views in only two months on YouTube.
Meanwhile, on June 30, the group performed the song at Joe Mettle’s 2024 Praise Reloaded, to the deafening delight of the live Accra Sports Stadium audience.
Defe Defe is from Team Eternity Ghana's acclaimed Testimony album.
